I guess we'll call this my one year old wrap up. Aiden is turning 2 tomorrow and yet I still think of him as my baby. Not so much. He is getting so big and so smart and it is happening SO fast. I felt the need to snap several "last minute" pictures today as if he would wake up tomorrow 6 feet tall and asking for the keys to the car.
Don't get me wrong, I am so excited for him to turn 2 and although I know the next year will be a trying one...it is going to be a fun one too. His communication has been thrown into over drive and he is well on his way to full blown talking. At one time Jason and I were so worried thinking he was behind and now we find ourselves amazed with what he picks up on so quickly and how well he is able to tell us things. We will just sit and listen to him talk and half the time we will know what he talking about. Aiden prefers if you do know what he is saying and you repeat it back. He will get mad if you say "yeah" too much as if just agreeing with whatever. It makes me laugh. Here are some of my favorite videos of him talking about his marine animals. This was a couple weeks ago (so now he is doing even better) but it gives you a good idea of what his conversations are like. I just love these videos...
I find myself saying "He's like a real person now" lol As if he hasn't been or something? I know what I mean though :) He's strong enough now that he can open the fridge and freezer door and get exactly what he wants. He will get the ketchup and mustard out of fridge and chicken nuggets out of freezer and bring them to me to make him lunch or dinner. Hilarious. Sometimes annoying...but mostly funny and convenient. We will find him biting into an apple that he went in and got all by himself. He apparently thinks he owns the place :)
He finds small obsessions to have. Months ago I would have been CERTAIN that we would have been having a Cars themed birthday party. Now we are having a Blues Clues themed party, but even then it barely beats out Toy Story. After buying Mario Kart Wii (finally) he had a little obsession for Mario and was coming home everyday and begging us to play the game. We got him these little key chains and for days he would carry them around every where, line them up in different places, and one night slept with them. All these obsessions are around the house and come in waves.
Right now, Blues Clues is definitely an obsession right now and one that is consistent. He could watch that show every single day, all day. He just loves it. When he sees any paw anywhere he says "clue" over and over. It is so cute. Unfortunatly, Blues Clues is not as popular as a whole right now so it has been quite difficult to find things for him to have or for his birthday party....so we are doing the best we can. Speaking of his little obsessions...he has one with these little guys because he can take their hats on and off and he really enjoys doing just that. He thinks it's funny to attempt to put a wrong hat on and then go "no" and laugh to himself.
Aiden is also doing really well with learning his colors. He knows blue the best (obviously) and then is doing really well with green and red. He knows the others but isn't always as consistent with being correct as he is with blue and green. He knows the color of those hats and if he loses one he will ask for help by asking for the "_____ hat". I find it great he is being specific. We got out Candy Land one day and he was actually matching up the colored game pieces with the cards and saying the colors.
Aiden continues to become a bit more of a picky eater but still eats his fruits and veggies (loves salad...I know, such a weirdo!) so I can't complain too much. He ate corn on the cob a couple weeks ago and started eating his bananas like that. He thinks it is funny. Also, note this was during the Mario obsession so they had to eat with him...I'll wrap this up and let his next year begin. He is all boy and loves to be outside, climb on everything, get into trouble, make messes, play with toys, and race his cars and trucks. He is such a beautiful little boy and I love watching him grow up.
