On Friday while at school I was surprised by a text:
"Can ur mom watch aiden
this weekend?...I
want to take you to coronado
island just me and you..."
I called my mom and off we went! We left Saturday morning after renting a car (which when we got there we were able to witness a crazy customer that was yelling at the manager and calling her the B word and saying she was going to get fired. It was awesome!). The drive was only about 5 hours and we didn't have to stop (way to go bladder!) except for the 2-3 border places to answer the question is we were US citizens...uh yeah. When we arrived we went to the Navy base that Jason has went TDY to twice. We drove around and he showed me the flight line and navy exchange, etc. This is the view from the flight line. Not too bad.

Then we headed to the private military beach. It was so great. It is a really nice big beach that is almost vacant. Jason said that the 3 times he has been there, this day was the most people he had seen...and there were barely any people there. Granted it was on the chilly side, but the beach is the beach! We were dressed for Phoenix weather so we were pretty freezing by the water. We enjoyed the waves for a bit and then headed to the hotel to change.

That evening we drove back off the island to San Diego to go to Seaport Village...one of my favorite places to go in San Diego. We went shopping for the little man and also had to buy a hoodie for Jason...we weren't prepared for the chill! :)

The next day we slept in (kinda) and headed back through the island...I love driving through the island because it is so pretty and "tropical" looking. All the houses are so beautiful and are all different from the next, not cookie cutter houses like here.

We headed over the bridge to San Diego again and took advantage of our free admission (military) to Sea World. Why not enjoy some sea life for a couple hours for free!

As you can see it was very overcast and cloudy. Coming from our already 3 digit temps over here, I welcomed it. I love love love being cold.

At Sea World they now have a whole Sesame Street area. We felt ridiculous doing stuff that we should have had
Aiden there for, but it was fun none-the-less. We took some pics for him :)

I met Grover and Abby!
WooHoo! I figured
Aiden would get a kick out of this...

We visited the smiling dolphins, of course, and I was greeted by getting
splashed as I walked up. It wasn't feeding time so the public was splashing the dolphins in hopes they would come close enough to touch...instead there was a dolphin that decided to just splash back. They are so playful and it was hilarious. He was really soaking people.

We went and watched the Pets Rule show...one of our
favs. Always fun watching animals do tricks, especially not just dogs but pigs, cats, and birds.

After we got out of the show we stopped by a stand to get a
churro and drink and as I tried to unwrap the straw apparently the
churro was sticking out too far and a seagull swooped down and took the whole thing, paper wrapping and all, right out of my hand. It wasn't really shocking considering years ago my sister had an incident with seagulls at Sea World when they stole the fish she was going to feed the dolphins and they k
nicked her finger...it was freaky...but in the moment, my chin just dropped and I couldn't believe it. Those guys don't mess around. I sat there shocked and then realized I needed to capture the moment. As you can see it is almost gone by the time I get out the camera. A whole
churro. I suppose I should be lucky I didn't lose a finger. Jason went and got me another one and then laughed at me and said I was pretty much holding it out there for them. It was a good laugh.

We couldn't miss
Shamu. The show was a bit low key because they trainers are still not allowed in the water due to that one death still being under investigation, but it was still entertaining to see such amazing creatures. I made Jason sit in the splash zone :) but we lucked out.

We ended the day with some dinner and then went down to the public beach in front of the Hotel Del Coronado (that place looks NICE!). There are some cool rocks that line the beach that we climbed up and watched the waves from for a while.

After that we had to head home. Reality was calling us. The weekend was quick but wonderful and much needed. Thank you Jason for being spontaneous and making that decision. We need more times like this! xoxo
